Decide in a minute

What Should I Wear Today?

Opening a full wardrobe and having nothing to wear happens to everyone. The trick is not more clothes, but deciding in order: first the weather, then your plan, and finally the style you feel like. With those three answers, the outfit almost picks itself.

Here is the method step by step, concrete formulas for every temperature and real looks for inspiration. Save it for rushed mornings.

The method: three questions

1. What’s the weather like?

Check the high and the low, not just the current temperature. If there is more than an 8-degree swing, think in layers: something you can take off at noon and put back on later.

2. What’s your plan?

Office, class, dinner, a date or errands. The plan sets how dressed-up you go: sitting all day is not the same as walking ten thousand steps.

3. What do you feel like?

Your style sets the tone: more classic, more street, more minimal. If in doubt, go back to your go-to formula and change just one piece.

Formulas by weather

Cold (below 12 °C / 54 °F)

A knit or thermal base, a sweater or hoodie, a long coat or puffer and boots or closed sneakers. One dark color below and a light one near your face.

Mild (12–20 °C / 54–68 °F)

A tee or shirt plus a light layer: blazer, trench, denim jacket or overshirt. Straight jeans or pleated trousers work for almost any plan.

Warm (above 20 °C / 68 °F)

Breathable fabrics — linen, light cotton — and loose shapes: a midi dress, wide trousers, an open shirt, shorts. Sandals or white sneakers.

Frequently asked questions

How do I decide what to wear every morning?

Ask yourself three questions in order: what the weather is like, what your plan is and what style you feel like. Pick the bottom or the dress first, then the top, and finish with shoes and a layer if needed.

What should I wear when I don’t know what to wear?

Go back to a safe formula: straight jeans, a white tee or shirt, a layer (blazer, jacket or sweater) and clean sneakers. It works for almost any plan and almost any style.

How do I plan my outfit the night before?

Check the forecast, think about the next day’s plan and lay out the whole look, shoes included. In the morning you just get dressed, without deciding anything.
